Psalm 107:9 – “for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things”
Have you ever been hungry? I mean very hungry?
Perhaps you’ve felt, like I have, that feeling of faintness, incredible weakness and sometimes crankiness that comes from the lack of the much needed nourishment that your physical body so desperately yearns for.
Food is a necessity for every human being. Lack of it can lead to death.
Hunger is an indicator from the body signaling the lack of required nourishment needed for it to function at maximum capacity.
The same way our physical man (body) needs food and nourishment for sustenance, so does our spirit if our spirit man is to live, flourish and bear fruit.
Is your spirit man being fed daily with what it needs to sustain you or is it fainting from deprivation?
It is important for every believer to answer this question truthfully.
Many of us don’t attribute our reactions of frustration, hopelessness, powerlessness or depression when we face the vicissitudes of life to the simple truth that we may be suffering from spiritual hunger and malnourishment.
Jeremiah 15:16 – Your words were found, and I did eat them; and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by your name, O LORD God of hosts.
In our hunger, many Christians find it easier to reach out for the next best thing – A snack or what I call ‘a quick fix’ – an example of such is the word someone else found when they sought God and we feed on that in our season of need.
Remember though…it’s only a snack! It’s purpose is to tide you over for a brief period until you access the food your body needs to survive. God has a word specific to you for you!
That word is meant to fill you; without it, you are soon back at square one!
The snack has done its job which was to give you temporary relief but when you seek God in His word, He fills you through and through for that season you are in and equips you with the strength required to jumpstart your next season.
The real meal needed to satisfy the hunger in every man’s soul comes from the mouth of God. In His word we find fulfillment and as His children, we must treasure and desperately seek Him in His word everyday!
Matthew 6:11 – Give us today our daily bread.
Job said in Job 23:12 – “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.”
Are you still daily spiritually fed from the commands of God’s lips? Do you still treasure His words more than the food you eat to sustain your physical body?
We will all do well to remember that nothing in the world can satisfy our hunger like the word of God!
Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
So, stay hungry for His word. It is my prayer that as you seek Him daily, you will find Him and in His presence, you will be filled with every good thing in Jesus’ Name.
I am happy to journey with you!
