Episode 2- JAR OF CLAY
What is the worth of a jar of clay?
The answer to this may very well depend on the part of the world you live in. However, in most parts of the world, the cost of a jar of clay may be negligible in comparison to the cost of a jar made with gold or silver.
So why consider a jar of clay when there are better choices ?
Perhaps what is important is not so much the quality of the jar but the quality of its content.
2 Corinthians 4:7 (NIV) – But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not of us.
The container is our frail frame, our physical body and the content is the power of God.
It is humbling to know that we are the temple of God. The place where God resides.
For consider God, the all-powerful, the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent one…the all knowing and always present God!
The one without a beginning and an ending…the Alpha and the Omega. The creator of the heavens and the earth. The beautiful and excellent savior!
It is mind-boggling to think that this tremendous force chose to reside in jars of clay?
Yes! this, the Bible says is the wisdom of God:
1 Corinthians 1:26-31 (NKJV) – “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ a Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption- that as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord”
You may ask: Why has He chosen to pour Himself on us, mere mortals and Jars of clay?
Titus 3:5-7 (NIV): “…he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” So that we may be just like Him.
The answer is equally mind boggling and humbling!
The great and mighty God has made an irrevocable decision:
a. That you and I might become heirs (not of perishable things but legally entitled to the property of God, successor, inheritor and beneficiary of the God nature)
b. That you and I may have the hope of eternal life (Life everlasting in the presence of God and unending knowledge of God and Jesus Christ)
c. That you and I may be just like Him (In all His attributes – His grace, mercy, faith, power, wisdom, understanding, counsel…)
Yes you are a jar of clay, yet you were intentionally made so by God, unassuming to men…but worth more than gold or silver in the sight of God.
For God demonstrated His love toward you that while you were yet a sinner, Christ, His only begotten Son died for you and God shed His love abroad in your heart through His Holy Spirit which resides in you.
So resist the devil and don’t believe his hype – You are not worthless!
Yes, you are a jar of clay but a priceless one because the treasure you carry is God Himself!
Rejoice in this life-transforming revelation today.
